Our Story
A Promise to Every Peak and Path
SLIM was founded through the collaboration of Rod Maclean, a Canadian with a longstanding connection to Nepal, and Dr. Ujjwal Shah, a physician committed to serving communities with limited access to healthcare.
Their shared experience working with communities in the Himalayas led to a simple question: how can quality medical care reach people who are difficult to reach—and continue to reach them?
That question became the foundation for SLIM and the work it carries out today.

Mission
Our mission is to bring expert medical care — directly and at no cost — to the most remote cornors of the Himalayas, while building strategic partnerships that expand access to quality healthcare throughout Nepal.
Vision
A future where no one in Nepal is denied basic healthcare because they live in a remote village, mountain community, or underserved urban neighbourhood.
Where we work
Beautiful, remote communities where geography can make healthcare difficult to reach
SLIM works in communities across Nepal's Upper Khumbu region, where mountainous terrain, limited infrastructure and long distances can make access to healthcare challenging.
Our medical teams travel on foot between remote villages, bringing essential care directly to communities that can be difficult to reach through conventional healthcare systems.
SLIM also operates community clinics in Kathmandu, extending free medical services to underserved populations who face barriers to accessing care.
From remote mountain villages to underserved communities in the capital, our work is focused on reaching people who might otherwise be left without reliable access to healthcare.
Our commitment
SLIM Is Not a One-Off Health Camp. We run the MediLoop™— a continuous medical circuit designed to ensure patients receive ongoing care and follow-up. Dr. Shah and the team return to communities regularly, while patients requiring advanced care are referred promptly to hospitals in Kathmandu.
